Recently some of my friends and business associates in the Pacific, introduced me to the shipping business and a potentially lucrative investment opportunity. Their formula for success was simple. Become a shipping tycoon. Well, not entirely. More like a shipping container tycoon. Regardless, here is their approach:
- own something for which there is high demand and then lease that item to others (shipping containers).
- the more demand that exists for that item, the higher price you can charge.
- when you are ready, sell that item (shipping containers) for more than or equal to the price, you paid originally.
So, like most people, I ask myself… Is this an investment scam?
Well, apparently not. After doing extensive research into container investing and leasing, I discovered that the shipping industry really does need containers, and they are eager to lease them for the routine movement of materials goods; on regular routes.
Here is how it works:
- Purchase shipping containers directly from the manufacturer, or have a container investment company arrange purchase for you. I was surprised, shipping containers are not as expensive, as you may think.
- Hire a container management company, that can add your conatiners to their shipping fleet, and put your containers to work for you.
Many reputable container investing firms, will maintain a growing list of shipping clients, who are anxiously awaiting containers. These shipping containers are used to move material from one company to another, and are necessary to satisfy existing, guaranteed, long-term leases. This means that investors know how much money to expect from the revenue on those leases, and because the world’s demand for containers increasing, so are the value of shipping containers.
All things considered, any investment opportunity involves some element of risk. However, after researching this opportunity at length, I am confident that container investing is not a scam. My only advice is to partner yourself with a dependable container leasing company, that will insure your containers against damage, loss, or theft, and provide long-term, reliable leases; that earn a favorable return on your investment.
