Once you have your website properly constructed and the content within is both meaningful and enticing, it is time to consider marketing your online presence.
In 2005, it took months to get a website showcased on page 1 of Google. Since then, Internet competition has increased and Google has implemented more strict policies; regarding their indexing, placements and rankings. If your website is not properly optimized, no amount of Internet promotion will delivered the desired in Search Engine results.
Ideally, the webpage optimization and search engine marketing of your website occurred during the planning and building stages. If this is not the case, be certain to address it as soon as possible.
- When you are completely satisfied with your website’s construction, author a very carefully worded Press Release describing your website, products and services. Announce that you are open for business by submitting your article to an aggregator. This approach will quickly get the news out to interested parties and provide an opportunity for a valuable inbound link.
- Hand submitting your web site to Search Engines should be done correctly, systematically and occur only once. Be aware of the top Search Engines, and be certain to have your web site verified by both Yahoo! and Google.
- When submitting your web site to online Directories, you must be satisfied that there is a high degree of relevance to the inbound link that you are creating. Otherwise, it is meaningless; or worse, penalizing. Your primary concern needs to be the Open Directory. The Editors are strict, but Google still places a high level of importance in the content found there.
- Utilizing Social Media is paramount when establishing recognition, brand and customer loyalty. Facebook for example, allows you to build a community around your product or service. Make certain that your content is fresh and appealing, or fan participation will quickly subside. Do not consider embarking on this endeavour unless you are committed to devoting the necessary time to make it a success; and keep the momentum going. A bad “buzz” will spread more quickly than a good “buzz”.
Once your website has received a favorable indexing in the Search Engines, you must maintain an aggressive link building strategy to maintain or improve your position. As well, your content must be comprehensive and compelling. Furthermore, your Social Media profile should not be a mirror of your website. Engage your participants, make it fun and exciting.
