Daymond John Business Tip: Act Now. Think Ahead.

Fueled by the decisions of corporations, small businesses and entrepreneurs, the business world continuously changes and evolves. In order to be successful (and continue to be successful), businesses must learn to operate in the present, but always be looking to the future. As I mentioned in an earlier post, preparation is everything for a business seeking long-term growth and continued prosperity.

Entrepreneurs (and board members) should constantly be mindful, of the profound effect that their immediate decisions could have on their business, five or ten years from now. In my earlier collection of Daymond John business tips from 2010, Daymond warns that the business world has a long memory, and that businesses will often feel the effects of decisions they made; many years before.

So what is the answer? The best laid plans for the future, should be include a steady progression and evolution, that is consistent with industry and marketplace growth. In fact, Daymond cautions business owners not to run their business as if its life-cycle is a sprint. Instead, think of it as a marathon, and then plan your short-term and long-term marketing and brand building strategies; accordingly.

  1. Daymond John also says, that the business world has a long memory. Make certain that the decisions you make, reflect your company’s values and principles, and are consistent with your long-term marketing and brand building goals.

  2. Do not make quick decisions, without considering the implications now, and in the future. Failing to prepare for changes in the marketplace, can have disasterous and costly consequences, for unsuspecting business owners. If the principles of your brand are true to your consumer audience, they should continue to evolve with the demographics; of your growing customer base.
