Local, Small Business or Corporate SEO?

Tuesday, April 20th, 2010

Over the past decade, Search Engine Optimization has gained notoriety as a necessary Service; and an invaluable asset to most online businesses. Along with this progressive way of thinking, has evolved three specialized areas; of Search Engine Optimization.

  1. Local SEO has emerged as a viable option for many apprehensive Small Business owners, seeking a low-cost or do-it-yourself approach; to developing an introductory online presence. Popular Local Directories, established Business Listings and Search Engines, often provide a brief description and contact information; for motivated online consumers. 20 percent of Google searches are related to location.
  2. SEO for Small Business focuses efforts on the placement of the client’s webpage, in top 10 results of Search Engines; for product or service related keywords/phrases. In most cases, these keywords/phrases are heavily influenced by regional and neighborhood specific terms. Properly conducted Small Business SEO, will address Meta Tags, website content and consistent Search Engine and Directory hand submissions. Social Media Optimization (SMO) should be introduced, to compliment an existing campaign.
  3. A Corporate SEO campaign will effectively utilize all aspects of Search Engine Optimization, Social Media Optimization and Online Reputation Management; to protect and promote the company’s brand. As well, a Corporate SEO campaign must actively encourage website conversions and maintain global Search Engine visibility; for Corporate websites and Blogs.

Before commiting to an SEO campaign, it is very important to appropriately determine your Search Engine Optimization goals. This means clearly understanding

  • who your competition is,
  • who your customers are,
  • where they live; and
  • the established methods you have have of delivery.

The SEO approach that you choose, should be consistent with your company’s marketing direction and product/service strengths. Finding motivated consumers, and providing them with dependable products or services, in a timely manner; should be the goal of every SEO firm and business owner.

Consider this: Money doesn’t sleep and neither does the Internet. Your level of commitment is reflected in the results.

The Importance of Local Search

Friday, January 22nd, 2010

Many Small Business owners see a national or international SEO campaign, as a costly endeavour; and a lengthy commitment. As such, it creates a fear and apprehension; that too often results in neglect or avoidance. Not realizing the benefits of SEO, and persuing a structured and affordable campaign; can be a costly mistake.  In fact, I have a saying…”Making no decision, is often worse than making the wrong decision; would have been in the first place.”

A recent study reported that 82 percent of shoppers, begin their local business search; online. This suggests a consumer migration from traditional methods of local search, like yellow pages ads; to the Internet. At a fraction of the cost of an aggressive national or international optimization campaign, Local SEO offers an affordable solution; for big and small businesses.  By concentrating Internet marketing efforts on local consumers, merchants and retailers can improve their Web exposure; and increase the liklihood of consumer contact or purchase.

Local Search represents a geographically specific target area, and as such, creates a valuable opportunity for small businesses; to generate consumer interest and revenues. Consumers seeking local business telephone numbers, addresses or product/service information; are actively using traditional search engines (such as Google and Yahoo!) to lookup local info and contact local businesses.
